The Friends of Shasta Abbey met for our quarterly meeting on Sunday, April 21. That Saturday, the 20th, we organized a very successful workday. Thank you to the monks and laity who pitched in that day, helping with the Sangha House, cooking lunch, putting together 8 new chairs for the Guest House, among other projects. And thank you to all who contributed to those chairs. Your generosity is deeply appreciated: the Guest House now has chairs that are comfortable and much easier to negotiate.
Our meeting largely focused on changes in the Gift Shop. Bob Johnson, the shop manager, stepped down from his position recently. He was a devoted, reliable, innovative manager, putting new systems in place, opening the shop for visitors and special occasions, making Buddhist supplies and books available for monks, retreat guests and congregation members alike. We are deeply grateful. His departure opens up questions about how to proceed. We would like to keep the shop open, it seems to serve an important function for the Sangha. We welcome ideas or any other ways you might be interested in helping. Please feel free to contact me or any board member about this matter.
As always, we are grateful to the monastic community for the gift of the Dharma and we treasure the opportunity to work together as the four-fold Sangha.
Carol, President of the Friends of Shasta Abbey
