News from the Shop - November, 2011
Due to your patronage of Shasta Abbey Buddhist Supply Shop the Friends of Shasta Abbey are able to cover to
the cost overrun on the heating and hot water system in the Guesthouse for the Abbey. FOSA is also purchasing more hearing devices for the congregation so the Dharma talks can be heard.

The shop has a few new items just in time for the holidays. We have some vary nice notebook calendars, new incense holders and other items including books and posters.

Quarterly Report from the Friends of Shasta Abbey - August, 2011
On August 14th Fosa met at the Abbey for our quarterly board meeting. Thanks to many generous donations from our Sangha, we were able to complete a project to raise funds for the Abbey’s new meditation screens. Thank you to all who contributed to these beautiful new screens!

We also began discussing how we could help sew new Segaki Banners for the Sacristy. We hope to work on this project at our next workday, Saturday, November 12th. Please mark your calendars! There will be indoor and outdoor work to do, and as always, we will provide lunch.

The board decided that, even though we have historically asked for volunteers or provided the labor ourselves for most of the projects we have undertaken at the Abbey, it is time to hire a plumber to complete a difficult project we have been working on at the Guesthouse. As the Dharma teaches, we need to accept changing conditions!

Please feel free to contact us if you would like to contribute to our work in any way. Anne Johnson is coordinating the sewing of the Segaki Banners, so please contact her if you would like to help sew: harpsong@snowcrest.net. Thank you for your ongoing support of Fosa and the Abbey. We continue to be deeply grateful for the teaching we receive from the monks and hope to give back in whatever small ways we can.

President of Fosa

Completed Projects
Successful FOSA projects include the printing of Cooking with a Gentle Heart, a cookbook that includes Shasta Abbey's favorite vegetarian recipes; the purchase and installation of four hot water heaters for Abbey buildings; the framing of 100 Avalokiteshwara prints that are used to decorate the Buddha Hall during the Avalokiteshwara Ceremonies throughout the year (these lovely images beautify the Vimalikirti Hall and the Bodhidharma Hall when they are not in the Buddha Hall); the purchase of a log splitter for the monastery; improved lighting in the monastery kitchen; expansion of the lay and monastic libraries; and helped with storm damage cleanup after the January 2010 blizzard.

Meditation Screens
FOSA is having a fundraiser for 12 new meditation screens for the Abbey. FOSA has received donations for 6 so far, and is looking to raise the funds for the remaining 6 screens. A plaque will be made for each screen, offered in memory of or in gratitude to someone. A donation of $100 covers the cost of the screen and a plaque. If you are interested in offering a donation, please contact Anne Johnson at harpsong@snowcrest.net.
