As a Dharma Heir of Rev. Master Jiyu Kennett, Rev. Master Ekō Little is deeply committed to monastic practice, and continues her legacy in maintaining and deepening the meditation and preceptual practice, priest training, and ceremonial at the Abbey.

Training

Dana

Dana refers to the ancient tradtion of mutual generosity which has helped sustain Buddhist monasticism from the time of Shakyamuni Buddha. See Giving

He offers teaching to both monks and laity with weekly Dharma Talks and extended retreats for the lay community, as well as Meditation Hall Talks throughout each training term for the monastic community. The talks offered here have been made possible through Dana.

Rev. Master Ekō is a member of the Order of Buddhist Contemplatives (OBC) and serves on the Advisory Board of the OBC. He is also active in the Western Buddhist Monastic Conferences, is a member of the Soto Zen Buddhist Association, and is on the advisory board of Sravasti Abbey.

Rev. Master Ekō has previously served the community of Shasta Abbey as Chief Cook, Sacristan, Guestmaster, Prior, Novice Master, and as Vice-Abbot for approximately 15 years. He was Rev. Master Jiyu Kennett’s personal assistant for 20 years.

He is particularly interested in
-traditional forms of monastic practice
and their application in the modern world,
-the development of Western Buddhist religious music,
-monastic codes of behavior, and
-promoting monastic inter-religious dialogue.
