Dharma Talk Series: The Platform Sutra by Reverend Master Daishin Yalon
The Platform Sutra is a central sutra in the Zen tradition. It is the only Chinese Buddhist text that bears the designation of “sutra”, a designation usually reserved for the Buddha’s sermons. It presents the life and work of
Hui-neng, the Sixth Chinese Ancestor. Venerable Master Hui-Neng speaks in a simple yet profound way, and his teaching has direct relevance for us in our practice today. In The Platform Sutra he is asked to expound on the
Maha Prajna Paramita, the Great Wisdom that leads to the other shore. In short his message is: recognize your
own true nature and accept and cherish your own Buddhahood. The sutra text and commentary referred to in
the talks are from The Platform Sutra: The Zen Teaching of Hui-neng. Red Pine (translator, commentary.) |
