Dharma Talk Series: Gakudo-yojinshu (Points to Watch in Practicing the Way) by Reverend Master Meian Elbert.
Great Master Dogen returned from China in 1225. During his first years back he stayed at Kennin-ji Monastery where he had practiced with his teacher, Myozen, prior to going tto China. In 1233 he founded his own monastery, Kosho-ji, in Fukakusa near Kyoto. He wrote Gakudo-yojinshu there in 1234. Dogen Zenji's Dharma Successor, Koun Ejo, joined his Sangha at this time. So Gakudo-yojinshu was probably the first writing for Dogen's students as a guide for practice at Kosho-ji. This text is important for anyone practicing the Way. Rev. Master Meian explored the relevance of this text to daily practice in the following six talks given in 2004.
