Wesak Celebratory Retreat One of our two celebratory retreats, Wesak is open to those who have attended retreats at Shasta Abbey or at a Priory. They offer a more relaxed schedule, with later rising times, and provide an opportunity for monks and laity to spend informal time together.

May 16-18, 2008

Buddhists around the world mark Wesak as beginning the Buddhist New Year. This Wesak retreat includes Dharma talks, a vigil ceremony and the Eve of Wesak Ceremony on Saturday, as well as the Festival of Wesak on Sunday, followed ringing of the great temple bell and a picnic.

" The world itself keeps Wesak day, and Wesak larks are singing..."
Each year we decorate the temple and make preparations for Wesak as we rejoice in the appearance in this world of the Triple Treasure of Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha.

In preparation for the retreat, you are welcome to listen to the Dharma talk, The Meaning of Wesak

In addition, there is a photo slideshow of Wesak celebrations in years past. Wesak Elephant
